Dr. Duchenne (1806-1875), an important Parisian neurologist, lead a series of experiments to prove that human physiognomy could be understood through a study of electrically manipulated facial muscles. To document his project he called upon the photographer Adrien Tournachon, the younger brother of Nadar. <
