DUILIO CAMBELLOTTI (1876-1960) ROME. 1911.
35 3/4x18 1/8 inches, 91x46 cm.
Condition A.
Cambellotti began his graphic career designing posters for exhibitions, fairs and theaters, before specializing in movie posters. Here, promoting an exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Kingdom of Italy, Cambellotti evokes the glory and power of the ancient Roman Empire. He depicts three eagles (the emblem of the Roman army) atop a pillar bearing the initials SPQR [The Senate and People of Rome], and the date that Rome was founded. The trio of majestic birds overlook a paved road, which is likely the Via Appia. This is the rare English version. Small format. Wember 288 (var).
