Additional Details

number 30 of only 100 self-published copies printed at Roux's Paris atelier at 9 Rue Falguiere from a total edition of 125. Duncan was the brother of famous dancer Isadora Duncan, and a writer, performer, and artist in his own right, as well as an avid Grecophile. This limited edition collaboration with friend Marcel (here spelled as "Marc" on the cover and title-page) Gestes was produced the year before Roux's death. Suffering from illnesses to which he was exposed as a medical orderly during World War I, the artist could no longer execute etchings, his prime medium, and turned to woodcuts. The images here still reflect the phantasmagorical and Symbolist aesthetic for which he was known and which depict Duncan's prose perfectly.
