Additional Details

Dvorák came to the United States in 1892 to "discover American music." From 1892 to 1895 he was Director of the National Conservatory of Music of America, and spent most of 1893 in Spillville, Iowa. He took the occasion to visit the Czech-American communities in Chicago, Omaha, and St. Paul, among others.
This photograph is inscribed to the wife of Edward Rosewater, a Czech-born politician who was also the founder and editor of the Omaha Bee.
