Sun Valley was created as a destination resort to encourage people to ride the railroad out west. Born in Massachusetts, Shepler graduated from Williams College and taught painting in and around Boston. He was a Navy combat artist during World War II, from 1942 to 1946. Shepler was an avid sailor and skier; he is well-known for his watercolor ski scenes of New Hampshire. Art of Skiing p. 124.
