Born in Massachusetts, Shepler (1905-1974) graduated from Williams College and taught painting in and around Boston. He was a Navy combat artist during World War II, from 1942 to 1946. Shepler was an avid sailor and skier; he is best known for his watercolor ski scenes of New Hampshire.
