Second edition of this rare title critical of conventional monastic life, and written by a Domincan from Prato, Italy. Something of a spiritual purist, Da Prato is concerned that monasteries were fast-becoming factories meant to churn out monks whether they had a calling or not. He also felt that many practices deemed appropriate for the brothers, such as the study of philosophy, reading of Greek and Latin classics, and ambition for higher offices within the church tended to have a spiritually corrupting effect. Other topics include the dangers gluttony and concupiscence.
