Folio format album containing carbon-copied typewritten thesis dissertation of 280 numbered pages; and 141 leaves with original captioned illustrations, mostly original photographs, all mounted to black pages, documenting Da Schio's exhaustive study of the mushroom, including descriptions of the edible varieties, details on the history of its consumption, and anything related to the industrial cultivation of mushrooms across the globe, with an aim to standardizing the practice and implementing it in Italy; signed and inscribed by the author on the verso of title page with eight-line dedication and large signature dated 18 November 1932; bound in original half red morocco, rubbed, joints cracked; 11 1/8 x 8 1/2 in.

Count Alvise Da Schio of Vicenza graduated from the Royal Agricultural Institute of Florence with this dissertation. He was in charge of cultivating mushrooms in the Costozza caves on his family's land. He pivoted after the ravages of the Second World War made the production of wine a more viable business for his family. The historic Villa Trento-Da Schio in Costozza di Longare still thrives as a working farm and event venue.
