Avel C. deKnight (1923-95) studied in Paris following service in the US Army in WWII. After returning to the U.S. he taught at the Art Students League in New York. His studies and impressions of Islamic culture can be seen in his "Mirage" series which began in the late 1960s. He was an Academician of the National Academy of Design and instructor in the Academy School of Fine Arts until his death.
