ANTHONY HANSEN (DATES UNKNOWN)

THE PALISADES OF THE HUDSON / NEW YORK CENTRAL LINES. Circa 1930s.

41x27 inches, 104x68 1/2 cm. Latham Litho & Ptg. Co., Long Island City.
Condition B+: expertly-repaired tears at edges, some into image; minor overpainting in margins; creases and minor abrasions along unobtrusive vertical and horizontal folds.

The beauty of the Hudson River and her dramatic scenery is seen from the vantage point of a passing train. Remnants of New York State's last glacier, the majestic cliffs of the Palisades rise 550 feet above the west side of the river and span the state line between New York and New Jersey. This unisgned poster can be definitively attributed to Anthony Hansen on account of the New York Central Line's 1931 calendar, the holiday-greeting, top sheet of which shows a black and white reproduction of this image with the caption "The Palisades and Hudson River from painting by Anthony Hansen."
