First edition in parts, first issue, 20 monthly parts in 19 octavo booklets; illustrated with frontispiece and 39 plates after Marcus Stone by Dalziel and W.T. Green; complete with all the wrappers, plates, text, and advertisements as called for by Hatton & Cleaver, lacking the rare "Mutual Friend Economic Life Assurance Policy," slip in part XIV; bound in original wrappers, edges uncut (marginal spotting to plates only in part V; occasional thumbing; 13 parts very neatly rebacked, the remaining 8 with some small chips at spine ends, some wrappers lightly soiled); housed in a custom green half morocco pull-off box and chemise by Morrell; 9 x 5 1/2 in.

Additional Issue Points: part I includes the scarce notice addressed to the reader and the wrapper is in the first state, lacking the publisher's imprint at the foot; p. 13 of the "Advertiser" is in a rare uncorrected state, where it is misnumbered "31".
