Oblong folio; illustrated chromolithographic title page printed with metallic ink on coated paper by Creuzbauer, followed by with ninety-two steel-engraved plates after Lang & Rudolf showing local scenery, cities, historic sites, and vistas, with multi-colored tissue guards separating the plates, and divisional titles for the different regions, (foxing, some other staining, other defects), bound in full contemporary blind stamped and gilt-titled brown cloth, ex libris James Johnston Pettigrew (1828-1863), with his book ticket pasted inside the front board, 12 x 8 3/4 in.

Pettigrew was a soldier for the southern side during the Civil War. He was badly wounded during Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg and then mortally wounded during a Union attack in West Virginia.
