Du Maurier, George (1834-1896)
Trilby, First Edition, in Original Parts.

New York: Harper & Brothers, January 1894-August 1894.

Eight issues of Harper's New Monthly Magazine, numbers 524-531, all with original wrappers and all contents; some covers chipping with loss, especially February 1894, which has lost its spine completely; the group housed in custom chemise and morocco-backed slipcase, 10 x 7 in.

Trilby, du Maurier's second novel, is a work of Gothic horror. In it, he introduces us to his iconic villain, Svengali, who hypnotizes Trilby, and transforms her into a successful singer. So influential was du Maurier's tale and its motifs that the name of this one character has entered the language to denote a master manipulator with malicious motives.
