Carl Zigrosser wrote that Dwight's work "is imbued with pity and compassion, a sense of irony, and the understanding that comes from deep experience. There is as much of the tragic as of the comic. [...] Her satire, the telling juxtaposition of humorous and incongruous elements is never bitter, always kindly and tolerant, somewhat in the spirit of 'aren't we all!'"
