The Promenade Concerts began in 1895 when Henry Wood was hired to conduct a series of concerts in the Queen's Hall in Langham's Palace. The hall remained London's main concert venue through 1941 when the building was destroyed in the Blitz. These inexpensive and popular concerts continue today.
