LE ROYAL HOTEL. Circa 1935.

46½x62 inches, 118x157½ cm. Courbet, Paris.
Condition A: minor creases and restoration in image.

The medieval town of Aubrac is on the pilgrimage trail to Santiago de Compostela. The Royal Aubrac was originally built as a sanatorium for recuperating tuberculosis patients in 1902. The building was transformed into a branch of the Astoria Hotel and the Vichy International in 1912, then upon purchase by Solignac in 1937, it became Le Royal Hotel d'Aubrac. This poster still promotes the curative nature of the air and benefits of rest at the hotel, and pictures the Solarium in full view to further enforce this point.
