Eckersley and Lombers met at the Salford School of Art in 1930, and quickly began to design posters together. Their Modernist and eye-catching style soon attracted a steady flow of commercial commissions, some stemming from their own outreach to Frank Pick, the managing director of London Transport. Over a four-year span, "Eckersley and Lombers designed 17 large format double royal posters and 19 panel posters (sometimes called "window stickers") for London Transport . . . [they] also designed leaflets and press ads for London Transport, as well as posters for sports matches, bus & coach hire, season tickets, and all manner of London events" (https://posterhouse.org/blog). Note - the signature on the poster is misspelled Eckersley-"Lomaers." Le Tennis A l'Affiche np, Pleasure Trips p. 35, LTM 1983.4.11956.
