EDMOND MAURUS (DATES UNKNOWN)

BOHÊME / NEIGE DU TOURISME. Circa 1935.

59x39 inches, 149x99 cm. J.E. Goossens, Lille.
Condition B+: replaced losses and repaired tears in margins; creases in margins and image; bleach spots in right image; reds attenuated. Mounted on Japan. Matted and framed.

One in a series of four posters designed by Maurus and printed in Belgium, promoting travel to Czechoslovakia. The others in the series feature Prague, The Black Forest and the Tatra Mountains. In 1935, in an attempt to figure out how to bring supplies up to mountain chalets, and in an attempt to provide more mobility to mountain border patrols, Czech-made Skoda Popular automobiles were retro-fitted with skis. The cars were also used in the days before ski lifts to transport skiers up the mountain.
