Additional Details

Edmund Tarbell was not only an exceptional artist, but a well-known art instructor. As a member of "The Ten," the group of artists who resigned from the Society of American Artists, Tarbell eschewed the conservative style of the previous generation of artists. His impressionistic artwork became sought-after by upper class patrons.

Tarbell attended, and later taught at, the Boston Museum School of Art. Due to his success at guiding students, including Francis Luis Mora, he became a very influential member of the Boston art circle; his adherents came to be known as the "Tarbellites." Tarbell went on to establish the Guild of Boston Artists.
