EDNA BOIES HOPKINS
Fig Leaves.

Color woodcut on cream Japan paper, circa 1920. 278x186 mm; 107/8891/8 inches, wide (full?) margins. Edition of approximately 16 (?). Signed and numbered 6 in pencil, lower margin. Edna Boies Hopkins was born in Hudson, Michigan, and married Ohio artist, James R. Hopkins (1877-1969) in 1904. She studied at the Pratt Institute with Arthur Wesley Dow, at The Ohio State University, and in Paris. Although she was a painter, she is primarily known as a color printmaker in Provincetown at the turn of the century. With her husband, she lived for extended periods in Paris (1905-1914 and 1920-1923). There Hopkins was an active member in various art societies, including the Société Internationale des Graveurs en Couleurs, Société Internationale des Graveurs sur Bois, and Société Nationale des Beaux Arts.
