EDOUARD COURCHINOUX LE TOUQUET / PARIS-PLAGE. Circa 1925.
39x231/4 inches. Lucien Serre, Paris.
Condition A-: restored losses in top left corner; unobtrusive repaired tears in margins.
Ideally situated at the tip of a triangle between Brussels and Paris, Le Touquet lies just south of Boulogne on France's Cote d'Opale. While picturing the famous golf course (designed in 1904), with its well known Piney woods and rolling sand dunes, Courchinoux inadvertently created a local icon. This red caddy has become a "veritable institution," (Sport p. 166) a sports logo inextricably linked with the region. One of at least two variations, the other has less text on the bottom, merely reading "La Mer-La Foret." Sport 212 (var), Train 213.
