Drypoint printed in dark brownish black on Japan paper, 1906. 395x296 mm; 15 3/4x11 3/4 inches, full margins. Edition of approximately 50. Signed and inscribed "No. 19" in pencil, lower right. A superb impression of this very scarce print.
We have found only four other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Woll cites the highest numbered known impression as "No. 42."
The sitter was incorrectly identified by Schiefler as Bruno Cassirer's daughter. She is in fact Suse (Suzanne Aimée) Cassirer, born circa 1894, the daughter of the influential Berlin art dealer/publisher Paul Cassirer (1871-1926). Schiefler 248; Woll 278.
