Completed in 1914, McKim, Mead & White's formidable Municipal Building has been called the "gate of the city." Among the original tenants were such agencies as WNYC and the marriage license bureau. Atop the grand building sits Manhattan's largest statue, the 25 foot high "Civic Fame" by sculptor Adolph Weinman.
