Additional Details

Anchor Books was the brainchild of the young, entrepreneurial editor, Jason Epstein, who urged Doubleday to meet the market need for paperback editions for college use. "The covers were designed by friends who were artists, of whom the most notable was Edward Gorey. The distinctive format announced the intentions of the series unmistakably and had much to do with its success. . .'--Jason Epstein, "Book Business: Publishing Past Present and Future" (New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 2001), pages 64-65.
