Note
This significant pencil drawing is a scarce study for Bannister's now lost oil painting which he exhibited in 1892 at the Home for Aged Negro Women in Providence, RI. Thank you to Anne Louise Avery, art historian and Edward Bannister expert, for her review of this painting. It is to be included in Avery's forthcoming catalogue raisonné on the artist.
