EDWARD MCKNIGHT KAUFFER (1890-1954) OUTPOSTS OF BRITAIN. Group of 4 posters. 1937. Each 29x36 1/2 inches, 73 3/4x92 3/4 cm. Condition varies, generally B+ / A-: tears at edges; creases in image. Paper. Group includes: A Postman in the Pool of London; A Postman in Northern Ireland; A Postman in Northern Scotland; and Posting Box at Lands End. In 1937, Kauffer designed six posters for Britain's General Post Office, including a series of four called Outposts of Britain, to illustrate that the G.P.O. could reach anywhere in the country, no matter how isolated the destination. For each, Kauffer uses an asymmetrical graphic frame of primarily black and blue into which he integrates black and white photographs. These are the larger format.
