In the 1930s, Frank Pick (the CEO of the London Passenger Transport Board) decided to use the Charing Cross Station ticket hall as an exhibitions space. Kauffer designed a large photographic mural for the area, and "Pick also commissioned him to design posters and car-cards publicizing the new exhibition centre" (Kauffer p. 66). Accomplished in the New Typography style, this was also one of Kauffer's earliest uses of photomontage in a poster for the London Underground. rare. Kauffer 213.
