Condition B+: repaired tears, creases and abrasions in margins and image. Framed. In addition to his strong, geometric graphic style, Kauffer was also a landscape painter (there were two exhibitions of his paintings in 1931 and 1933). A small group of posters he designed for Shell in the early 1930s reflect his ability to apply modernist, graphic design elements to classical landscapes. The results are a dark, mysterious and even surrealistic presentation of recognizable British landmarks. At least four posters designed by Kauffer fall into this category of twilight-hued, quasi-phantasmagoric images; The New Forest, Bodiam Castle, Stonehenge and The River Yeo. Shell p. 41
