EDWARD PENFIELD (1866-1925) A KENTUCKY BREAKING CART. 1900.
15 3/4x22 inches, 40x56 cm. R.H. Russell, New York.
Condition B+ / B: losses in bottom corners and along top edge; tears and staining along top edge. Printed on thick paper.
Alluded to in C.M. Price's, Posters, A Critical Study, 1900, Penfield "incorporated coaches in some of his Harpers' posters, as well as in his work for other clients. Studying coach design and its history was a favorite hobby, and he later became a collector of these vehicles and even wrote about them for Outing. The unfinished manuscript of a book on coaches survives among his family papers" (Penfield, p. 13). One of at least 4 images from this "series no.1"
