EDWARD PENFIELD HARPER'S NOVEMBER. 1893.
191/4x131/4 inches.
Condition A-: crease through upper left corner, affecting image; minor tears along upper left edge.
November became something of a horse month for Penfield, as five out of his six November posters feature an equine image. Following the evolution of Penfield's style, it is curious to see the difference between this image and his poster for Harper's November 1896, in which a hansom cab is depicted in an entirely different manner. Throughout his Harper's posters, Penfield consistently depicts the magazine as not only something read by the leisure classes, but also as something that is ubiquitous and readily available, as seen here by the woman leaning out of her cab window to purchase a magazine at the street corner.
