EDWARD PENFIELD HARPER'S NOVEMBER. 1898.
11 3/8x18 3/4 inches.
Condition B+: restored top left corner; repaired tears in margins.
A coachman in pea-green and shades of orange is holding his black horse steady as a woman in orange and her daughter in green (with orange hair) climb into the black carriage. From 1893-1899 all but one of the November posters executed by Penfield for Harper's depicted horses. As November was the month of the National Horse Show, Penfield was keeping with his established theme of showing Harper's as a magazine enjoyed by the wealthy leisure class. Kiehl 216, DFP-1 396.
