EDWARD STEICHEN (1879-1973)
A group of 3 contact prints and 20 press prints of naval activities supervised or shot by Captain Steichen during WWII in the Pacific. The well-composed photographs depict soldiers lounging on ships, reading, sleeping, and engaging in games and training activities. Also with some wider landscapes depicting the massive ships on the Pacific and planes in the air. Silver prints, the contact print images measuring 2 1/4x3 1/4 and 2 1/4 (2) square inches (5.7x8.2 and 5.7 cm.), the smaller are on the same sheet, each with Steichen's credit, title, and date in pencil on verso; the press prints measuring 7 1/2x9 1/2 inches (19.1x24.1 cm.), and slightly smaller, and the reverse, nearly all sheets slightly larger, all but one with a typed caption, the date, and the Navy Department credit on verso. 1941-45

Accompanied by two packets of documents from the National Archives documenting the captions and other information for some of the images included in the lot.
