The 1963 issue of Vanity Fair was the last single issue until 1983. The article was titled "The Theater: Photographing the Reality Behind the Make Believe" by George Jean Nathan. Steichen wrote about the sitting, which took place at his Umpawaug Pond in West Redding, Connecticut, in his book A Life in Photography.
