EDWARD WESTON (1886-1958)
Dunes, Oceano. 1936; printed circa 1953-54 by Brett Weston.
Silver contact print, the image measuring 8x10 inches (20.3x25.4 cm.), with the Estate of Edward Weston stamp with the number "799" in pencil on print verso; accompanied by a paper folder with The Photographs of Edward Weston/Arizona Board of Regents label and the number "23SO #799" in pencil.

Provenance
A California Collection

In 1939, Weston decided to give five hundreds of his finest prints to the Huntington Library in Pasadena. Although he emphasized the work he did on his Guggenheim grants from 1937 through 1939, for a number of reasons, he included eighteen from this series in 1936. Of the 832 Project Prints made in the fifties to represent his life's work, twenty-three were from this group. Clearly, in Weston's opinion, this series would contribute in a major way to the picture he hoped to leave of himself.
