In the early Summer of 1941, Weston and Charis Wilson made a trip to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Following this the couple visited Frederick Sommer in Prescott, Arizona, before arriving in Phoenix, where Weston appears to have focused heavily on photographing at Frank Lloyd Wright's studio, Taliesin West. Weston retained 6 negatives from this venture, and proposed that one of these images be considered for his 1946 retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.
