EDWARD WESTON (1886-1958)
Yucca, Wonderland of Rocks. 1937; printed early 1940s.
Silver print, the image measuring 9½x7½ inches (24.1x19.1 cm.), the mount 16⅜x13⅝ inches (41.6x34.6 cm.), with Weston's initials and negative date in pencil on mount recto, and his signature, title, negative date (twice), and negative number "MD-W-1G" in pencil, on mount verso.

The exhibition and publication records of this image indicate that Weston thought highly of it. In June when he returned to Wonderland of Rocks, which is part of the Joshua Tree National Monument, he went back to the same spot and photographed this fist of rocks without the blooming yucca (Figures1021-23/1937).
