More accessible to the modern reader than most early theological works, this book offers Edwards's insights on a wide variety of Great Awakening practices, with running titles such as "The Danger of Lying Still at Such a Time as This," "Of Preaching Terror to Distressed Consciences," "Of Being Righteous Over-Much," and "Singing in the Streets."
Inscriptions trace the ownership of this volume though three generations of a Connecticut family. It was purchased in 1743 by Samuel Tallcott (1708-1768), passed to his son Gad Tallcott (1745-1830), and was then inherited by his son Samuel Tallcott (b.1787) in 1830. Evans 4939, T.H.
