Additional Details

first edition, later issue in a handsome binding with footnote on page 9 and "good-by's" on page 376. Included is an autographed letter signed (two sheets, folds, and small chip to one sheet not affecting letters) from Egan to Robert Elliston, manager of the Surrey Theatre, dated May 28, 1827: " I congratulate you in being once more at the Head of Affairs: on commencing the campaign I feel assured, I shall soon see 'the Giant refreshed', bearing in mind, that dangers retreat when boldly they are confronted. I admire your pluck! I applaud your spirit! and at the dramatic match, I flatter myself I shall see you show fight like nothing else..." Also tipped in is playbill for the Olympic Theatre, London, printed in black on pale blue paper (few spots of foxing), for a performance of '... the Extravaganza of Wit and Whim, (founded on Pierce Egan's highly popular Work) and entitled Life in London! or, the Larks of Logic, Tom & Jerry' on Monday, March 25, 1822. This fragile notice is in fine condition; a rare survival. Abbey Life, 281; Tooley 196.
