Dame Eileen Mayo was born in Britain and studied under both Henry Moore at the Chelsea Polytechnic and Fernand Léger at the Académie Montmartre. Throughout her life in England, Australia and New Zealand, she was a painter, illustrator and printmaker, designing magazines, tapestries, stamps and posters. She moved to Australia in 1953 and designed a series of posters highlighting some of the continent's exotic wildlife.
