A vibrant and exotic view of "Longspined Butterfly-fish & Heron Island Volute," as well as some of the bright coral that inhabits the Great Barrier Reef. One of Australia's most renowned attractions, the Great Barrier Reef was the subject of a handful of posters during the 1930s. Percy Trompf and Gert Selheim both designed images focusing on the extraordinary natural beauty of this wonder of the natural world. Dame Eileen Mayo was born in Britain and studied under Henry Moore at the Chelsea Polytechnic, as well as Fernand Léger at the Académie Montmartre. Throughout her life in England, Australia and New Zealand, she was a painter, illustrator and printmaker, designing magazines, tapestries, stamps and posters. She moved to Australia in 1953 and designed a series of posters highlighting some of the continent's exotic wildlife including kangaroos and koalas.
