Additional Details

Klaus Dietrich (K. Donald) Hopf (1918-1972) was the violinist son of Ludwig Hopf, Einstein's friend and physicist collaborator. The younger Hopf owned a 1771 violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, which is possibly the violin mentioned in the present letter.
