A lovely study of Monroe, which was shot for LIFE magazine but was not reproduced. The year 1953 was a transitional period for the young actress: she starred in three memorable movies, including Niagara, How to Marry a Millionaire, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Although her career-defining screen roles were to come, glimpses of the Marilyn mystique—sex goddess, muse—were captured by Eisenstaedt in this casually intimate portrait.
