Cox was a painter and poster designer who worked for London Transport as well as railway and shipping companies and the Empire Marketing Board. The London Characters series comprised twelve separate posters. This lot includes The Waterman, Covent Garden Porter, The Yokel, and The News Boy. Each image is a deep, luxurious lithograph, with such extraordinarily precise inking as to make them stand out among the London Transport posters.
