ELIZABETH CATLETT (1915 - 2012)
My right is a future of equality with other Americans.

Linoleum cut printed in green and black on buff wove paper, 1947. 235x152 mm; 9 1/4x6 inches, wide margins. Signed in pencil, lower right.

This dark impression is an extremely scarce example of a proof from Catlett's 1946-47 important series of linoleum cuts I am the Negro Woman. We have located only one other early impression with this tone of green ink in the collection of the Baltimore Museum of Art - it is signed and dated 1947. A later edition of 20 was printed at Robert Blackburn's Printmaking Workshop, New York, in 1989, and entitled I am the Black Woman.
