signed by ellington. "Warm Valley" was recorded by the Ellington band on 17 October 1940 with Ben Webster and Jimmy Blanton as featured players. During the period of late 1940 through 1941, Ellington recorded this and a number of other pieces with what has become known as the Blanton-Webster band. Jimmy Blanton was the bass player with the group for only a two-year period. Not long after these recording sessions, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. He died in 1942.
