ELLISON HOOVER
McSorley's.

Lithograph on cream wove paper, circa 1930. 225x355 mm; 8 7/8x14 inches, full margins. Edition of 60. Signed, titled and inscribed "Ed/60" in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression of this extremely scarce lithograph.

McSorley's Old Ale House claims to be the longest operating tavern in New York, dating back to 1854. It is an East Village institution where the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Boss Tweed and numerous other famous personalities have visited. Many artists, including John Sloan and the Ashcan School artists also frequented McSorley's (see lot 164).

We have found only 2 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years.
