first edition of the first series, with a three-page als in black ink. The letter (one sheet, folded twice, app. 145 words) is from Concord, addressed to Mrs. Sargent and signed "R.W. Emerson" and mounted to a typed transcript which is tipped to the front flyleaf. BAL 5189.
