The inscription, at upper and lower edges of first page: "After the original copy composed by me, in the year 1859 in the city of New York. Daniel D. Emmett. / . . . The version of "Dixie" in the present lot includes the original first verse, which was omitted when the song was first published, because of fears that it might have controversial religious implications: "Dis worl' was made in jiss six days, / An' finish'd up in various ways; / . . . Day den made Dixie trim an' nice, / But Adam call'd it 'Paradise.'"
