Surrounded on three sides by the river Tajo, the medieval city of Toledo sits on a hillside promontory. The former seat of the Spanish monarchy (in the 16th century) this city is filled with cathedrals and monasteries, many of which contain paintings by El Greco, who moved to the city in 1577. He died there in 1614.
