ERNST BARTA (ERNÖ BARTA 1878-1956) MÖBEL EMSHEIMER. Circa 1908.
28x15 1/2 inches. Curt Behrends & Co, Wilmersdorf.
Condition A-: minor loses and tears at edges.
Barta was born in Hungary where he trained as a painter and lithographer. He moved to Germany where he plied his trade in the years prior to the First World War. Using the flat tones of the background color to help delineate his image (think of the work of Hans Rudi Erdt, Hohlwein, and Paul Scheurich), Barta depicts an elegant woman and her bulldog viewing the contemporary furniture on display in the Emsheimer showroom. Despite the sophisticated design, the company was not a high-end retailer. The poster advertises furniture for the populace at "factory" prices. DFP II 42, Wember 12.
